Some stories are hard to tell. Some stories are hard to live. And some are both.
When I stood on the Tenx9 Nashville stage and told the story of my dad, the rawness of losing him was still fresh. Grief can make you feel like you are losing someone all over again every time you tell the story. And sometimes, telling the story is how you begin to heal.
I circled around this story for over a year because how does someone tell the story of getting up to speak when the phone call telling you that your dad has passed comes seven minutes before you are due at the podium?
And I did it to honor my dad.
For a few minutes, in a room full of strangers who became witnesses to something deeply personal, I could almost sense him cheering me on: “Wunderbar, wunderbar!”
