I love ginger and it adds just the right kick to BBQ. I decided to make some pulled pork using my very favorite Natural Brew Outrageous Ginger Ale the other night and it was delicious. You could make this recipe with regular Ginger Ale, but I think the good stuff made all the difference. Plus, if you like ginger ale, you have to try out Natural Brew’s version. Just as I was about to serve dinner I realized I didn’t have any BBQ sauce in the house so I made up this quick matching ginger based BBQ sauce for a perfect pairing.
Outrageous Ginger Ale Pulled Pork
Pulled Pork Ingredients
2-3 lbs Pork Loin Roast or Tenderloin
1 bottle Natural Brew Outrageous Ginger Ale
¼ cup Tamari (or Soy Sauce)
¼ cup Cooking Sherry
¼ cup Honey
2 Tbsp. freshly grated Ginger Root
Ginger Root (about a finger sized chunk of root peeled and sliced long ways)
1 small Sweet Onion
3 garlic cloves chopped up
1/8 Tsp. Cardamom
¼ Tsp. Red Pepper Flakes
Salt
Pepper
Ginger BBQ Sauce Ingredients
1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cups ketchup
5 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
5 Tbsp. Natural Brew Outrageous Ginger Ale
½ Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. Honey
1 Tbsp. Mustard
1 Tsp. Ginger Powder
½ Tsp. Salt
½ Tsp. black pepper
1 dash Louisiana style hot pepper sauce (optional)
Pulled Pork Directions
1. Add sliced onions to the bottom of your crock pot and topped with pork. In a separate bowl mix ginger ale, tamari (or soy sauce), sherry, honey, grated ginger, chopped garlic, cardamom along with a dash of salt and pepper and then toss it all into in your crock pot. Cook covered on Low for 12 hours or High for 6 hours until your pork basically falls apart at the touch of a fork.
2. Remove the meat from the crock pot and shred with two forks. Return to the pot and keep warm in the sauce until you are ready to serve.
3. Serve on buns with BBQ sauce. I made my own, but you could use your favorite store bought brand if you want.
BBQ Sauce Directions
1. Mix brown sugar, ketchup, red wine vinegar, ginger ale, Worcestershire sauce, honey, mustard, paprika, Hickory Smoked Flake Salt (or regular if you don’t have it), pepper and hot sauce in a sauce pan. Heat over medium to medium low heat for 10 minutes. Serve.
