Today is the first day of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) 2015. In 2012 I wrote Puffy & Blue: The Chronicles of Nine Lives Together during NaNoWriMo which I published in 2015. In 2013 I wrote The Tough Side of Love during it. It was a book I needed to write, but am not ready to publish it. Both years I reached the 50,000 word count and then some. You can read an interview I did this week with ABC.com here.
I pondered what to write in 2015. I have a long list of books I plan on writing. I narrowed the decision down to two different books—a bison cookbook or a how-to business book with advice to small business owners.
At first I was leaning heavily towards the business book because it would not include all the cooking, sampling, measuring and research I would need to do on top of writing 50,000 words in 30 days. In fact I had even pre-written a blog post announcing the business book as the topic of my NaNoWriMo book because it seemed more doable.
But the timeliest book in our family right now is a bison cookbook. Since my husband owns Red Cedar Bison and we are at the market every Saturday it just makes sense to add to our product line. I love to cook. I love the science behind cooking and I love to experiment in the kitchen. For my own sanity I have promised myself I won’t even consider formatting the recipes as I go because 50,000 words will be a whole lot of recipes!
Do you have any favorite beef, chicken, pork or fish dishes that you would love to be translated for bison?
About the Future Business Book
A future book will be a business book because many people have purchased my book How to Self-Publish: A Guide for Author-Preneurs for the business advice alone. They had no intention of writing a book, but wanted all the business advice in it. It will be a book dedicated to helping small business owners at all stages in their business. My original thought was to call it “Getting Your Business Ducks in a Row,” but that is too long. That might end up being the subtitle. If you have any great ideas for a business book title please feel free to share. I love ideas from my readers.
Here are the chapters I have in mind:
- Introduction – My business story from 1992 to present
- Copywriting – Crafting Your Compelling Story
- Finding a Niche for You
- Building a Platform – Website and Blog
- Creating Avenues Through Social Media
- Social Media 101 Instructions
- Business Tips
- Creative Funding
- Alternative Revenue Streams
- The Power of Tribes
- The Value of Mentors, Coaches and Associations
- Why Everyone Should Become an Author-preneur
- Resources
If there is anything you would like me to answer in the book please feel free to ask it in the comments.
I might be crazy to be doing NaNoWriMo at the same time as I am doing the 30 Day Blog Your Brand Challenge, but wish me luck!
