I have a good deal of experience moving, living out of suitcases and making due with temporary housing. Since 1967 the major moves in my life include:
Dallas, Texas
Tachikawa, Japan
San Mateo, California
Desoto, Texas
Munich, Germany
Duncanville, Texas
San Antonio, Texas
Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Portland, Oregon (the repeats are not a typo)
Beaverton, Oregon
Oregon City, Oregon
Edmond, Oklahoma
Molalla, Oregon
Portland, Oregon
Oregon City, Oregon
Happy Valley, Oregon
Vancouver, Washington
Franklin, Tennessee
Whew, and that doesn’t even count the college 3 month summer and six week winter breaks I spent in Germany, the 6 month international study abroad to Ireland, the 3 month testing the waters in Maryland or the 6 month adventure to Burbank, California. It also does not account for the multiple apartments, group housing, dorms and houses that I have moved around to in many of these locations.
Tomorrow my family is moving into our dream home. I keep saying that this is my last move ever. I think mostly to appease myself. I know life can change in a moment, but for now I’m putting down roots in our new home in Franklin, Tennessee. Watch for future blogs written from my new home office about gardening, homesteading and the adventures of owning land.
